An ice-covered island, 14 mi long, lying in the E part of Abbot Ice Shelf between Farwell Island and Fletcher Peninsula. Mapped by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy (USN) air photos, 1960-66. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Major Robert Dendtler, USA, coordinating officer on the staff of the Commander, U.S. Navy (USN) Support Force, Antarctica, during Deep Freeze 1967 and 1968.
