A point 7 mi SW of The Gullet on the E side of Adelaide Island. Mapped by Falklands Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) from air photos taken by Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE), 1947-48, and Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition (FIDASE), 1956-57. Named by UK Antarctic Place-names Committee (UK-APC) for Hans Mothes, German glaciologist who, with B. Brockhamp, made the first seismic soundings of a glacier, in Austria in 1926.
