First mapped by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and air photos taken by U.S. Navy (USN) Squadron VX-6 on photographic flights of Dec. 14-15, 1959. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for H.C. Bracken, plane captain of the airplane on these flights.
