Mapped by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy air photos, 1960-62. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for First Lieutenant John H. Greene, USA, commander of the helicopter detachment that supported the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Topo North-South survey of the area, 1961-62.
