It is snow covered except for a steep rock scarp on its E side. Surveyed by the Falklands Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in 1955 and named by the UK Antarctic Place-names Committee (UK-APC) for Helen, wife of Menelaus, whose abduction by Paris was the cause of the Trojan War in Homer's Iliad.
