Description

A narrow, ice-covered island 16 mi long, lying in Block Bay along the coast of Marie Byrd Land. The feature was partially delineated from air photos taken by the Byrd Antarctic Expedition (ByrdAE) (1928-30) on the flight of Dec. 5, 1929. The island was completely mapped by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), 1959-65. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Lawrence J. Driscoll, BM1, U.S. Navy (USN), Boatswain's Mate aboard USS Glacier along this coast, 1961-62.
