An island 3 mi long, lying W of the S end of Watkins Island, Biscoe Islands. Mapped from air photos taken by Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition (FIDASE) (1956-57). Named by UK Antarctic Place-names Committee (UK-APC) for Harwood S. Belding, American physiologist, Dir. of the Quartermaster Climatic Research Laboratory, Department of the Army, Lawrence, MA, who has initiated considerable research on cold climate clothing.
