The peak is thought to be the feature discovered on March 16, 1831 and named Cape Ann by John Biscoe. The name Cape Ann has been retained for the adjoining cape; Mawson named the peak for its apparent discoverer, John Biscoe, Master, Royal Navy (RN), Ret., noted British Antarctic explorer.
