A mountain massif with steep rock cliffs on its S side, rising to 1,850 m in the south-central part of Shackleton Range. First mapped in 1957 by the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (CTAE); photographed by U.S. Navy aircraft in 1967. Named by UK Antarctic Place-names Committee (UK-APC) for Philip J. Stephenson, Australian geologist with the transpolar party of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (CTAE) in 1956-58.
