Description

A rock 1 mi NW of Mount Nilsen in the Rockefeller Mountains of Edward VII Peninsula. Discovered by the Byrd Antarctic Expedition (ByrdAE) in 1929. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for John P. Strider, Aviation Machinist's Mate, U.S. Navy (USN), plane captain on the ski-equipped R4D carrying R. Admiral George Dufek that was the first aircraft to land at the geographic South Pole, on Oct. 31, 1956.
