Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) (2000) after Robert J. Allen, U.S. Antarctic Resource Center, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Reston, VA, cartographer and expert on aerial photography of Antarctica, who was closely involved in U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) mapping of the continent, 1950-2000.
