Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after John Carlstrom of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, University of Chicago, Chicago, IL; Projects Director, Center for Astrophysical Research in Antarctica at South Pole Station from 2001.
