A broad glacier flowing into the head of Potaka Inlet on the N side of Thurston Island. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Chief Photographer's Mate Owen McCarty, aircrewman on the U.S. Navy (USN) Operation Highjump PBM Mariner seaplane that crashed on nearby Noville Peninsula, Dec. 30, 1946. McCarty and five other survivors were rescued on Jan. 12, 1947.
