A group of mountains just NW of New Bedford Inlet, bounded by Mosby Glacier on the N and the Haines and Meinardus Glaciers on the S, in Palmer Land. First seen and photographed from the air by the U.S. Antarctic Service (USAS), 1939-41. Mapped by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy (USN) air photos, 1961-67. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after James Dwight Dana (1813-95) American geologist.
