Description (see definition): A prominent nunatak, 1,405 m, standing 4 mi NW of Mount Rummage in the SW part of Britannia Range. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) for Chief Aviation Machinist's Mate Shepard L. Darnell, a member of U.S. Navy Squadron VX-6. During the period December 27, 1962-January 4, 1963, Chief Darnell and six mechanics replaced in the field the engine of a helicopter downed on Emmanuel Glacier.
