An ice shelf about 120 mi long and 60 mi wide, nourished by Jutulstraumen Glacier, bordering the coast of Queen Maud Land. from 3W to 3E. Photographed from the air by the German Antarctic Expedition (GerAE) (1938-39). Mapped by Norwegian cartographers from surveys and air photos by Norwegian-British-Swedish Antarctic Expedition (NBSAE) (1949-52) and air photos by the Norwegian expedition (1958-59) and named Fimbulisen (the giant ice).
