Description (see definition): An ice-covered cape which forms the W extremity of Thurston Island. Discovered by R. Admiral Byrd and members of the U.S. Antarctic Service (USAS) in a flight from the Bear, February 1940. Named by US-SCAN for the U.S. Exploring Expedition (USEE) ship Flying Fish, commanded by Lieutenant William M. Walker, U.S. Navy (USN), which reached a point within 125 mi of this cape; the ship's position on the morning of Mar. 23, 1839 was 7000S, 10016W.
