Island 2 mi long, lying 4 mi NE of Jurva Point, Renaud Island, in the Biscoe Islands. First accurately shown on an Argentine government chart of 1957. Named by the UK Antarctic Place-names Committee (UK-APC) in 1959 after Aleksandr F. Laktionov (d. 1965), Soviet sea ice specialist in the Arctic and Antarctic Institute, Lenigrad, 1927-65 (Head, Department of Oceanography, Ice Forecasting and River Mouths).
