Mapped by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) from surveys and U.S. Navy (USN) aerial photographs, 1961-66. Named by Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names (US-ACAN) after Macalester College, St. Paul, MN, the alma mater of Gerald F. Webers, leader of the U.S. Antarctic Research Program (USARP) Ellsworth Mountains Expedition, 1979-80.
