Description (see definition): A reentrant about 17 mi wide occupied by the lower part of Byrd Glacier, lying between Cape Kerr and Cape Selborne on the W side of the Ross Ice Shelf. Discovered by the British National Antarctic Expedition (BrNAE) (1901-04) and named for Lieutenant Michael Barne, Royal Navy (RN), a member of the expedition, who with Sub-Lieutenant George F.A. Mulock, Royal Navy (RN), mapped the coastline this far south in 1903.
